The environmental policy of the European Union aims to eliminate, reduce and prevent pollution, to ensure sustainable development by ensuring that natural resources are used in a way that does not harm the ecological balance, to prevent environmental damage at its source, and to ensure the integration of environmental protection with other sectoral policies (energy, transportation, etc.) aims.
The environmental field was given the status of “policy” with the Maastricht Agreement, invoked in 1993, which established the European Union by transforming the European Community into a political union as well as an economic and monetary union.
On 14 October 2020, the European Commission submitted a proposal for the preparation of the 8th Environment Action Programme. The objectives of the 8th Environmental Action Program are listed below;
• Meeting the 2030 greenhouse gas emission reduction target and realizing the transition to climate-neutral order by 2050,
• Reducing vulnerability by increasing adaptation capacity and resilience to climate change,
• Enabling the transition to a regenerative growth model, decoupling economic growth from resource use and environmental degradation, accelerating the transition to a circular economy.
• Protecting the health and well-being of citizens by achieving the goal of zero pollution to air, water and soil.
• Strengthening natural capital, protecting, preserving, and strengthening biological diversity,
• Reducing the pressure of production and consumption activities on the environment and climate (especially in the energy, industry, infrastructure and construction, transportation, and food sectors)
To reduce the pressure on the environment and climate in the design of infrastructure and construction of the transportation sector, which is within the scope of our company and in line with the goals of the 8th Environment Action Program mentioned above, the main objective of our project is to bring the green design to the forefront in the design and design processes carried out.
Within the scope of our project, our main goal is to investigate the necessary issues to carry out the design phase of the infrastructure projects to be realized in the transportation sector in an environmentally sensitive manner in accordance with the 8th Environment Action program and to identify the bottlenecks for the actions to be taken within this scope. In this context, the main goal of our project is directly related to our horizontal priority of combating environment and climate change, and the activities to be realized with the participation of each partner in the activities we will carry out within the scope of the project are also related to our priority “Contributing to innovation in vocational education and training”.
